What's on in London in 2019?

After all the excitement of Christmas and New Year, January can feel a bit underwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Plan a trip to London and experience some of the most spectacular events of the year with inspiration from the list below.

Kensington Palace

Just a short walk away from our hotel doors, Kensington Palace is a fantastic place to learn about the stories behind some of Britain’s most famous monarchs, and 2019 holds a great list of must see exhibitions!

Still popular as ever and with only a month left, the Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibition is the perfect place to start your 2019 London adventure. Trace the evolution of the Princess of Wales’ style all the way back to her first public appearances and get the chance to see an exclusive collection of her most famous and coveted outfit’s before the exhibition closes on 17 February 2019.

But don’t worry, if you haven’t got time to visit Diana’s Dresses exhibition, a major new exhibition will be opening in May 2019 to celebrate 200 years since Queen Victoria’s birth! Visitors will be able to walk through the rooms of the royal residence where a young Victoria spent her childhood days. You can view a lock of the long-serving queen’s hair and her handwritten letters, whilst catching a glimpse at the rare surviving pieces from the 19th century Queen's wardrobe such as a her delicate pair of silver boots.

Royal Albert Hall

As one of the most iconic buildings in London, the Royal Albert Hall is a must on most people’s to-do lists and we agree! This world-famous music venue is a wonderful attraction, whether you want to attend one of its many events or even take a tour of its historic building.

One event that is coming up and is certainly an event you won’t forget, is Cirque du Soleil. They return to London this year with their latest show, Totem and we are proud to be their official hotel partner. Totem takes you on a stunning journey into the Evolution of Mankind – from our original amphibian state to our ultimate quest for flight, and is truly a spectacle for all ages. To make it more exciting, Park Terrace have created the most sensational Afternoon Tea dedicated to the ultimate desire to fly – with their apple cinnamon choux butterflies and extraordinary acrobats.

If that doesn’t take your fancy, did you know that the Royal Albert Hall once flooded the auditorium with 56,000 litres of water for an opera concert? If you would prefer to uncover the untold stories of this beautiful building, make sure you take the Grand Tour, where you may even be lucky enough to hear a legendary artist in sound check!

Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show is a quintessential event in London. For many people, it signifies the start of the British summer - no matter how mild that may be.

The most prestigious garden show in the world will run from the 21st until the 25th of May and will be bigger and more glamourous than last year.

Luckily, our hotel is just a short journey from the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Simply take the Tube from High Street Kensington to Sloane Square and you're just a few steps away from the splendour of the Chelsea Flower Show.

While there is so much to do and see in London during the summer, getting the chance to go to Wimbledon or soak up the atmosphere it creates in the city, is a definite must. This year's Wimbledon tennis tournament takes place between July 1st and 14th, giving you a chance to see some of the greats play.

However, we all know it can sometimes be a nightmare getting tickets so don’t worry, whether or not you manage to get them, you can still enjoy the show elsewhere! One of our favourites is Cardinal Place Roof Garden. You can join in on a fitness class from Frame, Gymbox and Triyoga or pick up a glass of frozen margarita, sit back on a giant stripy cushion and watch the event on a large outdoor screen.

BBC Proms in the Park

Last but certainly not least, make sure you experience Britain's largest open-air classical music event with BBC Proms in the Park in London’s Hyde Park.

Taking place in September on the closing night of the two-month long classical musical festival, it is the ultimate event for live music, fireworks and cheery sing-alongs. It truly is a night to remember, and one you won’t want to miss!
