Top Christmas Activities for the Family

‘Tis the season to be jolly and there’s nowhere more fun to be during the Christmas season than the Big Smoke. Below, I share what’s on in London for families so you can soak up the festive atmosphere while keeping the little ones entertained.

Christmas Lights:

Catch the capital at its ‘twinkliest’ with the Oxford Street Christmas Lights being switched on, on November 6th 2018. This year sees shopping experiences, in store gigs and pop-up fun too. Carnaby Christmas Lights are Nov 8th with Covent Garden on the 13th. London will be illuminated and pretty as a picture this season.

Get Your Skates On:

Natural History Museum’s Ice Rink is my personal fave. With views of Alfred Waterhouse’s buildings and an enchanting Christmas tree that belongs in the movies, this makes for a picture-perfect festive activity for all the family. Do book in advance though as it unsurprisingly, becomes very busy. On until Jan 6th 2019.

Somerset House is another stunning venue to skate at, and you can glide around in the 18th century courtyard and enjoy a tipple too with champagne on offer and even special events if you fancy making a night of it (DJs, disco and even club nights). On until Jan 13 2019.

Christmas Markets:

Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park

Entry is free and with fairground rides, a chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto and a bustling Christmas market, you and your family are in for a treat! Nov 22-Jan 6 2019.

Wintertime at Southbank Centre

A must-visit at Christmas with every stall imaginable on offer from wooden toys to Christmas decorations, vintage and modern jewelry, hot dogs and sweet treats from all over the world, my family always say it begins to feel like Christmas once we’ve visited.

Christmas Festival at the Royal Albert Hall.

With a range of shows, films and performances on offer from classic Handel’s Messiah to Home Alone, The Snowman with live music and two versions of a Christmas Carol with carol concerts and more from 1 of Dec to the 31st, book here.

London Pantomime.

‘Oh no she didn’t!’ ‘Oh yes she did’... ‘She’d behind you’! We love a pantomime and you don’t need to veer out of London for one either!

Head to the London Palladium for Snow White with Dawn French, Julian Clary, Nigel Havers and more for a star-studded performance of this much loved tale. Book here. On until Jan 13th 2019.

The Royal Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House

An unmissable, enchanting ballet the family will remember forever. 3 Dec-15 Jan. Book here.
