New Year's Eve in London
Whether you're a local or visiting London over the festive season, you will be starting the New Year with a bang.
The spine-tingling firework spectacular over London is not one to miss, whether you can view it in person or on the screen. The firework display over London's Southbank is so popular, it is now streamed live on the BBC website. You can also watch last years firework display.
London comes alive on New Years Eve and there's something for everyone to ring in 2017; from parties, dinner or a quiet night in. For one of the most unique New Year's Eve, why not spend it in the Natural History Museum? Sing Auld Lang Syne round the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum's first-ever NYE ball.
Enjoy a meal before the fireworks in one of London's top restaurants, such as our very own Min Jiang. The authentic, fine-dining Chinese restaurant has stunning views over London’s skyline. Join us and delight in a lavish Chinese banquet before enjoying the fireworks spectacle along the River Thames. Or for an exciting evening, Park Terrace Restaurant's New Year's Eve Gala, has a festive inspired three course menu, flowing Champagne and live music.
You can also celebrate the last day of 2016 by taking the free Sherlock Holmes and The Blue Carbuncle guided tour walk around London. This walk is based on the short story of the same name which begins on Christmas morning when a man is robbed of his Christmas dinner. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the story as it will be explained as you go.
Head to Tate Britain for one of the last chances to see this year's Turner Prize showcase. The Turner Prize is awarded annually to an artist under fifty, born, living or working in Britain, for an outstanding exhibition or public presentation of their work. Over the years the coveted art prize’s annual exhibition has caused quite a stir amongst both critics and the general public.
If your spending the day of New Year's Eve with your family, many of London's main attractions are still open. London Zoo is a great place to spend the day with all the family. ZSL London Zoo’s newest exhibit transports visitors from the heart of London to India’s vibrant Sasan Gir, where they can get closer than ever before to mighty Asiatic lions.
London Public Transport will run throughout the night, and there is free travel on the tube and buses between 23:45 and 4:30. On New Year’s Day the tube will run as normal until noon, when a reduced Sunday service comes into effect.
