GOURMET BURGERS FOR TWO
Going out for a burger has long been a classic date night activity, but recently the traditional beef patty inside a bread bun has been elevated to new levels. Now, there are as many variations of the not-so-humble burger as there are stars in the solar system.
With National Burger Day fast approaching on 24 August, there’s never been a better time to treat your other half to a gourmet burger. Luckily, London plays host to a veritable feast, so you won’t be short on choice.
Priding itself on using the best of great British produce, Honest Burgers has grown from strength to strength. It now boasts branches all over London, meaning you will never be too far away from a gourmet burger fix. With toppings including smoked bacon, red onion relish, lightly pickled cucumbers and tangy cheddar, it’s hard to go wrong.
The flow-chart menu makes it easy to build the perfect burger for you and with hand-cut, skins-still-on rosemary chips to accompany every order, you are sure to leave satisfied.
Meat and Shake
If you like your beef aged for 36 days and your flavours smokey, then Meat and Shake is the establishment for you. With an emphasis on respect for the food and recipes that have been passed down through the generations, this burger joint promises an authentic taste of southern barbecue. With names like Smoking Bandit and Luchador, you are sure to find something out-of-the-ordinary here.
To really push the boat out, however, order the Cool Joe, Mean Joe, Killer Joe. Loaded with chipotle mayo and smoked cheese atop both beef and lamb, this creation won big at the National Burger Awards 2017, meaning you don’t want to miss the opportunity to try it.
Self-proclaimed as offering the best gourmet burgers in London, Hache uses Scottish beef and more toppings than you could shake a chip at. You can choose between a brioche bun or fresh ciabatta, with the option of forgoing the bread altogether and just having a green salad with your patty if you wish. Enhance your burger with everything from Bavarian smoked cheese to truffle aioli or Madeira jus for a truly indulgent meal.
Patty & Bun
It’s hard to imagine a burger bun more stuffed full of ingredients than those found at Patty & Bun. The names of the burgers are nearly as creative as the innovative combinations, with everything from Smokey Robinson to Thunder Thighs on the menu.
Choose the Lambshank Redemption for an alternative to beef and a distinctly Greek flavour to it. As well as baby courgettes and pickled aubergine, it comes with feta cheese for a truly gastronomic feast.
Burger & Lobster
For a really decadent experience, choose Burger & Lobster, which aims to execute a small number of dishes really well. There are various burgers on the menu, or you could go for a full steam lobster, but the best option is to combine the two. This is called the beast burger and includes a patty topped with lobster meat, brie and a specially created truffle and tarragon mayo.
