If you're planning a break in London, you don't just have to think about visiting the attractions that the city is so famous for. It's even better to explore what you can do in London inside when the weather is colder and you have small children to entertain.

But what are the best things to do when you don't want to spend too much time outside? Here's our list of some of the things you can see and do in London without having to venture out into the cold:

Shrek's Adventure!

You and your family can meet everyone's favourite ogre at Shrek's Adventure at London Southbank. When you arrive, you'll be greeted by Princess Fiona who will be your host throughout your journey into Dreamworks Tour. You'll then board a red double-decker bus and you'll be taken on a 4D adventure as you and your loved ones fly through the air and explore Far, Far Away. However, it won't all be smooth sailing as Rumpelstiltskin’s witches don't want you to reach your destination and your journey turns into an exciting chase.

Explore the Greenwich Planetarium

There are various ways you can discover the beauty of the universe at the Greenwich Planetarium. From an epic mission following the activity of asteroids in outer space, to looking at what is occurring behind the beauty of the night sky, you can discover more about the world around us. Space Safari is even a special family-friendly show designed for younger children and all under sevens are welcome to explore the universe with Ted the Teddy Bear.

Discover the Barbican

As the largest multi-arts and conference venue in Europe, you won't be surprised to hear that there's loads to see and do at the Barbican. It hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, with everything from art to music, theatre and even film being showcased at the venue. With so much on offer, you may find it difficult to narrow down your options, but the family-friendly Big Barbican Adventure is a special treat that will take you on a journey around the venue. The trail guides families through hotspots around the venue, both inside and outside, where you'll be presented with puzzles and games. You'll need to work together to solve a number of clues, crack the code and get your reward!

Children's Story Centre

Who doesn't love listening to a good story? But at the Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford you can do more than just listen, as the activity centre encourages families to take a journey into some of their favourite tales and explore. Your little ones can discover the exciting indoor Story World, where they can go wild across two floors of stories and play. Hootah, the resident alien, will be on hand to help take families on a mission to collect some of the best stories to take back to his home planet Squiggly Diggly. If the weather is a little brighter, or you can wrap up warm, there's also the Story Garden, which is an adventure playground with a creative twist!
