Escape the heat with lidos and outdoor swimming

Planning a family trip to London is exciting at any time of year, but during the summer the city is a particularly beautiful place to visit.
As well as coming alive with the hustle and bustle of the many tourists who come to visit the main attractions, the city has a number of family-friendly activities to do during the summer. Although you may not think of it as a space for swimming, there are plenty of places throughout the capital where you can escape the heat of the city and cool off with your loved ones.

Tooting Bec Lido
With its iconic Pantone-coloured changing huts, Tooting Bec Lido is a favourite among the locals. Measuring 90m, it is the largest outdoor freshwater pool in the UK and is used throughout the year. As well as the pool itself, there is a paddling pool for smaller children and a cafe so you can grab something to eat without having to leave.

Charlton Lido
A £2 million refurbishment has seen this facility come to life. It now offers families a fully heated pool, as well as two sun terraces, a gym, fitness studies and cafe. Since being reopened to the public in 2013, it has become extremely popular with locals looking to cool off.

Brockwell Lido
Situated in the middle of art deco Grade II-listed buildings, which house the award-winning Lido Café, the pool is the perfect place to bring the whole family. The outer buildings also feature an exercise studio, where even the very young can take part in activities. Used for a range of events, the area hosts film nights and a variety of different fairs, making it a hotspot for both visitors and locals.

Wherever you visit, London is an ideal place to enjoy with the whole family whether you are only visiting for a couple of days or are planning to stay longer.
