EASTER FUN FOR THE TWO OF YOU
You may not think of Easter as a romantic time of year, but with the bank holiday giving us a little bit of extra time off work, it's the perfect excuse to plan a getaway with your other half. Whether you enjoy eating out in truly sensational restaurants or are the type of couple who like to do something a little more cultural together, London has plenty to offer this Easter.
Discover London's sweet history
When many of us think about Easter, our first thoughts go to chocolate and the delicious eggs you can expect at this time of year. So why not use this as an excuse to go on a chocolate tour with your other half? London has a wide selection of excursions that will teach you all about the city's ties with chocolate, as well as giving you the chance to try a few samples along the way.
The Chocolate Ecstasy Tour runs an evening walk that will take you from Covent Garden to Piccadilly. The mile-long walk will teach you all about how chocolate is made, as well as treating you to some of London's best architecture, Expect themed cocktails, specially made truffles and a well-informed guide to take you through the whole process. These run on Thursdays only so would be the perfect way to kick start the long weekend. Of course, make sure you book ahead to secure your place on the tour.
My Chocolate are holding special chocolate workshops this Easter for cocoa fanatics. Together you can make chocolate creations of your choice, including a giant flat egg or chick from molten chocolate. The chocolate workshop includes a chocolate history lesson, as well as a tasting session.
Break a leg at the London Dungeons
Once you've got your fill of chocolate, head to the London Dungeons in the heart of the capital. 'Bad Egg' is not your conventional of Easter egg trial, but if you can find all the 'bad eggs', you will earn yourself a sweet treat in the gift shop and a chance to win a Merlin Annual Pass.
Across Easter, it is running an exclusive show telling the story of Richard Mansfield who was a dedicated Shakespearean actor. However, when he took up the lead role in the Lyceum Theatre’s infamous production of “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”, things started to go a little strange for him and his cast.
Mansfield's portrayal of the mad doctor was so authentic that he was even reported to the police as a suspect in the Jack the Ripper case, as one member of the audience couldn't believe that someone could be so convincing without being homicidal.
Drink it all in
If you're in need of a strong drink - and to cuddle up to your partner - after all the twists and turns of the London Dungeon, then why not relax with a chocolate-themed cocktail?
Hotel Chocolat has made a name for itself thanks to its chocolate-infused menu, and this inspiration has made it to the drinks list. At the London venue - Rabot 1745 - you can enjoy chocolate martinis, and a selection of other drinks with the chocolatier's sumptuous cocoa gin.
