Carolan Brown
Name: Carolan Brown
Position: Manager of the Soma Centre
Years in Service: 2
What is your history in fitness?
I have been working in the industry for 20 years. I formally trained as both dancer and choreographer at the Laban Centre. I then developed my career in the field of personal fitness coaching. I used to train HRH The Princess of Wales.
Do you have experience in other forms of training?
Pilates, which is a balanced body conditioning method, is very important to me. I have choreographed and produced six exercise videos, most recently 'Flow Pilates' and published 'Body Watch' a personal fitness book and ‘Pilates for Everybody’ for Readers Digest in the USA.
What is your motto?
‘A peaceful mind gives life to the body.’ I passionately believe that exercise should benefit long-term health. This is why I have developed the criteria for the synergistic Mind-Body classes and therapies available at the Soma Centre.
Any memorable anecdotes of life at Soma?
Gerri Halliwell of Spice Girl fame came to the Spa to rehearse her latest single. An urgent message came through for her. As I opened the door, I heard a yelp and realised I had hit her little pooch with the door. Gerri was cool about it, and has since become a frequent visitor.
