I started at the Royal Garden Hotel in the Housekeeping department as a Room Attendant 12 years ago. I am a trained seamstress and in 2004 I was given the opportunity to become the hotel’s Seamstress - it has been the best job that I have had in my career! I now look after our uniforms and make sure that our team members are well presented and comfortable with what they wear and are always ready to present our Five Red Star standard.
Here, I feel that I am always learning – whether we are looking to find new uniforms which are made from new materials or creative items of clothing, adjusting uniforms, curtains bedding and so on - no day is ever the same! The best part of my job is that I have autonomy and space to organise my day to day duties and gain great satisfaction from the joy of seeing a finished piece.
Behind the scenes, our hotel never sleeps. My hours are flexible, which is great because I can balance my home life and my work life which is a major benefit to me. I stay late on Mondays and Fridays so that the night staff are able to see me and I can help them with any uniform issues as well.
