Before I started my industrial placement in IT at the Royal Garden Hotel, it never crossed my mind how much goes on behind the scenes in a busy 5 star hotel. Our IT team of three looks after a variety of systems, ranging from Office applications to our specialist in house property management system, finance, purchasing and HR software. My job entails dealing with the networks, patching, fixing telephone and television networks and also providing technical, first line support for all our employees and, of course, our guests and conference delegates.
Why do a placement at the Royal Garden Hotel? I would recommend a placement here because the Royal Garden Hotel has a great working environment and I consider this to be the most important thing in a job and it is the reason why I look forward to going to work each day. My manager is fantastic and I have learnt an awful lot from him because he is always happy to help and support me. Plus, the benefit of living in the hotel’s staff accommodation right next door and just off Kensington High Street is an added bonus and provides a great base for dipping into the London life-style, to go and explore or to meet for a game of softball when the infamous London Hotel softball league kicks off in summer.
